President and CEO

Leading the way is Hazen’s President, Martha H. Schumacher, CFRE, ACFRE, MInstF (AdvDip). Serving as the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Chair, she's an international philanthropic thought leader, consultant, author, speaker, coach and champion. Dedicated to unparalleled client service, Martha provides executive campaign counsel, and comprehensive major gifts strategy, training and coaching. Named Outstanding Professional Fundraiser of the Year by the AFP D.C. Chapter, she has been working with and within nonprofit organizations for 25 years. Martha lives with her husband Casey and two rescue dogs in Alexandria, VA. When she’s not traveling for business or pleasure, she enjoys hiking the Billy Goat Trail on the Potomac, taking in Washington’s vibrant culture, and breaking bread at wonderful “foodie” restaurants across the region.


Amy Butler Smith

Senior Advisor

Hazen’s Senior Advisor, Amy Butler Smith, M.Ed. has been an integral part of the Hazen team since 2010. Experienced in strategy development, philanthropy, client relations, marketing & communications, and event management, Amy has played key roles on health nonprofit teams including the Children’s Miracle Health Network. She holds a Master’s Degree in Higher Ed Administration, working in academia including Case Western Reserve University and Kent State University, the latter where she taught several classes. Amy and her husband Jacob live in a large refugee community in Riverdale, MD, providing help to their neighbors with the difficult transition to the United States, and learning from the many cultures around them.
